A big congratulations to Clwb Ifor Bach who have, after 3 years of trying, been promoted to the La Pantera Tuesday Works League Division 1.
Clwb joined our leagues just after the covid lockdowns ended – initially as a small group of 50-somethings looking to keep fit playing a sport they love.
Since then, their numbers and dedication has grown to the point where missing a game might result in you not getting back in the side for a little while!
A Shaky Start
Things didn’t get off to the best start for Clwb, they picked up just 1 win in their first 7, a 10-0 victory against Vacancy FC. The other games featured drubbings at the hands of the AA, Trade Choice and our own Gôl team.
Turning the Tide
Clwb looked to be in for a long season of good old fashioned beat downs but remarkably, a 5-4 win against eventual league winners AA sparked them to life.
After the team’s 1-0 victory over AA on 23rd April, promotion started to feel like a possibility with Clwb’s team manager telling his players:
Just looked at the table. I hope you’ve realised what you’ve done. We’re in grave danger of promotion.
In grave danger indeed.
The 5-4 victory over AA proved to be the start of a club record 8-match unbeaten streak, lifting Clwb to lofty heights once deemed improbable, if not impossible.
